Monocacy Retreat Celebration - Historic Ellicott City

Join Historic Ellicott City, Inc. for a commemoration of the150th celebration of the Monocacy Retreat (when thousands of retreating soldiers marched through the historic district) will be celebrated the weekend of July 12th and 13th, from 10am to 5pm each day.

The celebration commemorates the retreat of the Union Army from the Battle of Monocacy near Frederick, Maryland when thousands of retreating troops marched through the Ellicott City historic district on their way back to Baltimore.

Free events will include Civil War reenactments on the grounds of Mt Ida, and Mt Ida itself will be open during those hours. Visitors can view rooms furnished in keeping with the Civil War time period, with docents providing interesting information about various aspects of life. Light refreshments will be offered to mansion visitors by Historic Ellicott City, Inc and the Friends of the Patapsco Female Institute, the building’s co tenants.

Mt Ida, the 2013 Decorators Show House, is located at 3691 Sarahs Lane (at the end of Court House Drive), overlooking the Circuit Court parking lot. There will be free parking on the Circuit Court parking lot.

Information will be available regarding this year’s Decorators Show House, historic Meriwether Farm, which opens to the public on Sept 20th through Oct 19th.
