Report: Sigaty to Run for Third Term on Council

Mary Kay Sigaty, who represents Downtown Columbia on the Council, said she would run for a third term on the County Council in 2014.

Mary Kay Sigaty, (D-District 4) announced on Thursday she would be running for a third term on the Howard County Council, according to an ExploreHoward.com report.

"This is absolutely where my heart is," said Sigaty at a fundraiser Thursday night at Columbia's Lakefront, according to the report.

Sigaty, 63, has represented District 4, which encompasses Downtown Columbia and parts of Clarksville and Fulton, since 2006.

If re-elected in 2014, Sigaty's third term would be her last due to term limits in the county.

Earlier this week, District 2 Council member Calvin Ball announced he would also run for a third term on the Council.

Council member Courtney Watson, (D-District 1) is scheduled to make a special announcement about her future political plans on Saturday morning in Columbia. Local political observers expect her to announce her intention to run for Howard County Executive in 2014.
