Where to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day 2013 in Columbia

Now we're not going to tell you how to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, because that's up to your own interpretation. But we've compiled a list of places to celebrate the holiday.

Second Chance Saloon 

The Saloon in Oakland Mills is kicking off the celebration at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 17. The bar is offering $2.50 green National Bohemians all day, as well as $4 Irish Coffees and $5 Jameson shots. Bruce Casteel will play live from 3 to 6 p.m. and Idle Wild from 6:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Symphonic Pops

Columbia Orchestra’s Sunday performance will include a Celtic celebration featuring the Teelin Irish Dance Company as well as a tribute to Frank Sinatra. Much of the performance will center around Broadway’s greatest show tunes and songs from films. The show starts at 3 p.m., at the Jim Rouse Theater, 5460 Trumpeter Road, Columbia. Tickets are $20 - $25.

The Ale House Columbia

The newly-opened bastion of Baltimore beer in Columbia is offering a special menu on March 17 that features Irish classics like corned beef on rye ($10.99), corned beef and cabbage ($14.99) and a lamb porterhouse served with mashed potatoes and Irish soda bread ($22.99).

Kelsey’s Irish Pub – Ellicott City

Kelsey’s is preparing for St. Patrick’s Day with a week of festivities including daily drink specials, a Guiness midnight toast on Saturday night and an all-day party on Sunday.

Union Jack’s

The British restaurant near the Mall in Columbia continues its takeover of the Irish holiday by opening its doors at 8 a.m. on Sunday and offering a free Irish breakfast buffet until 10 a.m. After that, specials include $2 green Bud Lights and $3 Guinness from 10 – 2 p.m. and $4 Jameson all day. Live music starts at noon and the restaurant is setting up a heated tent outside for more space.

Victoria Gastro Pub

Victoria will be offering a  number of Irish beers on tap and corned beef and cabbage on Sunday night.

Gaithersburg St. Patrick’s Day Parade

It’s a bit of a drive to get over to Gaithersburg, but the city is hosting a family-friendly parade on St. Patrick’s Day that features Celtic dancers, bagpipe bands, clowns, fire trucks and live entertainment. The parade starts at 10 a.m. and runs until noon at Washingtonian Center (1-370 and Washington Boulevard) in Gaithersburg, MD.

Rams Head Tavern – Savage Mill

Rams Head may take the title for cheapest Guinness, offering drafts of stout for 50 cents to the early birds who are there between 11 a.m. and noon on March 17.  From 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. they’ll be featuring live bands including The Vagabonds and Y-Not.

Old Ellicott City Bar Crawl

Enjoy St. Patrick’s Day at several bars on Main Street in Ellicott City. The crawling starts at 11 a.m. on Sunday at La Palapa Grill and Cantina and will take people to Phoenix Emporium, Cacao Lane, The Diamondback Tavern, Ellicott Mills Brewing Company and the Judge’s Bench.
