Water Main Breaks Twice in One Month in King's Contrivance

Residents could be with reduced water service on what is expected to be a 90-degree day.

A water main has broken near the 9900 block of Cape Ann Drive in King's Contrivance twice in the past month. Friday's break is expected to affect 50 homes and businesses for the six hour restoration, according to a statement from the Howard County Department of Public Works

The water main break will affect homes and businesses on Quantrell Lane, Cotton Mill Lane, Cambric Court and Herding Row, according to the statement.

The first water main break on Cape Ann Drive occurred on August 2. That break affected approximately 100 homes and businesses and took about three hours to fix, said DPW.

A DPW employee said it's the same pipe that broke on Friday. He said crews may not have tightened the clamp on the pipe enough when they fixed it the first time.

Residents without water may want to visit the grocery store, as temperatures are also expected to reach up to 90 degrees in Columbia today, according to the National Weather Service.

The Utilities department is directing people with concern about their service to call 410-313-4900.
