Occupy Wall Street Protest: Right or Wrong?

"Occupy Wall Street" has come to Maryland. Are the protesters helping or hurting discussions on the American economy?

It began nearly three weeks ago with a few hundred disgruntled students, investors and unemployed workers fed up with what they view as a greedy Wall Street, an ineffective Congress and a bleak economic future.

Since then, the crowds part of Occupy Wall Street have swelled in the original protest spot in lower Manhattan and are continuing to spread across the country. They go global this weekend in London.

Protests have ricocheted across Maryland as well. , two dozen Howard County residents lined Main Street in front of Rep. Elijah Cummings's office to chant, wave signs and share emotional stories of hard times in this economy.

Earlier this month, protesters gathered at McKeldin Square .

Polls show the movement is perplexing to many Americans. Thirty-five percent are not sure how they view the protests, according to a recent Reuturs/Ipsos poll.

Many questions remain: Are the protesters making a point or are they merely tilting at windmills, grandstanding for the cameras and offering no solutions? Are the power brokers, in government and on Wall Street, an affluent, indifferent minority riding out the storm until another crisis catches protesters' interest?
