Top 5 Haunted Houses, Scary Attractions

In anticipation of Halloween, Patch rounds up a list of the scariest places to visit in or near Howard County.

 

If it takes more than a simple "boo" to make you jump, Patch has a list of attractions in or near Anne Arundel County that will satisfy your need to be scared silly.

Wicked Woods Haunted Attraction
Where:
120 Dorsey Rd., Glen Burnie (Behind Monsignor Slade Catholic School)
When: 7:30 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 27
Details:
The two haunted trails are recommended for ages 8 and older. There is a Wee Kids Maze—a Halloween-themed path full of twists and turns—for younger kids. Plus, there is a concession stand.

$10

Haunt at Sunrise Farm
Where:
100 Dairy Ln., Gambrills
When:
7:30 p.m. (dusk) to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 27
Details: An old-fashioned hayride on a farm will lead you to haunted barns where you'll be escorted through by the Zombie Action Task Force!
Cost:
$15

Baysox Doomsday Asylum 2012 Haunted House
Where: 
Prince George’s Stadium, 4101 N.E. Crain Highway, Bowie
When:
Stadium gates open for the haunted house at 6:30 p.m. and tours run from dusk until 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 27, then during Halloween week: Oct. 29-31
Details:
More than 20 live actors are waiting to jump out at you around any corner. And sensors detect when you walk into a room so there could be something else scary popping up when you least expect it. Rated PG-13.
Cost:
$15 in advance, $17 at the door

Six Flags: Thrills by Day and Fright by Night
Where: 
Six Flags America, 13710 Central Ave., Largo
When:
Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 28, plus Oct. 19 and Oct. 26
Details: 
Halloween-themed shows for the family and trick-or-treating for kids. Evening hours include walk-through attractions and haunted thrill rides.

Bennett's Curse
Where:
Blobs Park, 8024 Max Blobs Park Rd., Jessup
When:
Starting at 7 p.m. Thursdays to Sundays through Oct. 28, then during Halloween week: Oct. 29-31, Nov. 2-3
Details:
Claims to be the scariest haunted house in the state, draws more than 20,000 guests a season and employs about 70 actors. Not recommended for children younger than 10.
Cost:
$30 general admission, $40 speed pass
