Today in Columbia: Looking for Local Leap Day Babies

Yesterday's appeal for folks born Feb. 29 brought an enthusiastic outpouring from across the globe — but not Howard County!

The Weather:

"Sunny, with a high near 51. West wind between 6 and 14 mph. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 32. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm." — The National Weather Service

Leap Day Birthdays:

Imagine my excitement when responses poured in yesterday to my request for comments from Leap Day birthday folks.

Turns out that people with Leap Day birthdays — from all across the world — are a pretty organized bunch!

Raenell Dawn, a cofounder of an organization called the Honor Society of Leap Year Day Babies, put the word out to the membership that I was looking for folks to talk to for a story.

I've heard from people in Texas, Oregon, Massachusetts, Greece and Spain (with the email written in Spanish).

While I'm grateful for the submissions (and I will use some of the comments in my eventual story), I'd still love to hear from some folks here in Howard County (and preferably Columbia, of course) who celebrate their birthdays on Feb. 29.

But a big Leap Year shout-out goes to all of Columbia Patch's national and international fans!

Open House Tonight:

The Columbia Association invites you to stop by an to learn more about its plans to improve walking and biking opportunities in town.

Stop by the Owen Brown Community Center between 7:30 and 9 p.m. tonight to meet the Connecting Columbia project team and to offer your suggestions for the plan.

A duplicate open house will be held tomorrow night, same time, at the Slayton House.

Purple Fever:

Are you Columbia's biggest Baltimore Ravens fan?

Are you known for your tailgating parties, Ravens memorabilia collection or purple facepaint?

Do you have a special routine on game day, or practice any special rituals to help the home team win?

Let me know: marge.neal@patch.com.
