Since 1997, Nov. 15 has been designated America Recycles Day. It is the only nationally recognized day in the United States that is dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle, according to the America Recycles Day website.

Recycling is easy, and just a matter of habit, I've found. Now that many jurisdictions have single-stream recycling, which allows residents to put all recycling on one bin — instead of sorting and needing several bins — it's easier than ever.

If you already recycle, congratulations and keep it up.

If you don't recycle, why not celebrate today by deciding to join the effort? Start small, with one one type of recyclable material, and go from there.

You'll be surprised at how easy it is.

And there'll be less trash to take out!

Thanksgiving:

I'm still begging for Thanksgiving feedback. I've had a couple of bites, and I'm still waiting to hear back from a couple of people for more information.

But I need more of your stories — I know there are more than three residents in Columbia!

I'm looking for residents willing to share Thanksgiving traditions, recipes, crafts, funny stories and any other tidbits about the holiday you'd like to share.

Have you ever ruined dinner? Dropped the turkey on the floor? Forgot to thaw the bird in time for the big feast? Do your Thanksgiving dinners always end in arguments?

Give us the good, the bad, the funny! Pictures get extra credit.

Send an email to marge.neal@patch.com to include your story in Patch's Thanksgiving coverage. Include a phone number so I can call for more information.
