Thousands Of Flags Planted At The Columbia Mall For 9/11 Tribute

On Friday morning, more than 3,000 flags were placed outside the Mall in Columbia to represent those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

On Friday morning, Sept. 2, thousands of flags were planted outside the Mall in Columbia as a tribute to those who lost their lives 10 years ago on Sept. 11.

According to the Columbia Mall's Facebook page, employees of the mall were joined by members of the Columbia-Patuxent Rotary Club, the Howard County Police Department, and the Howard County Fire Department, who all came together to place the flags along the Little Patuxent Parkway.

A total of 3,300 flags were planted, each one representing a life lost, the site states.

According to the Howard County Times, the final 343 flags that were placed during the event represented the number of firefighters and paramedics who died at the World Trade Center.

About the tribute, Suzanne Voelker wrote on the mall's Facebook page that the site looked impressive from the road.

"I was having a bad day until I saw the flags and it reminded me to not sweat the small stuff. Thank you," Voelker stated.

It would be ever so nice to see pictures of the actual display rather than a generic "stock" close-up shot of one flag.

what about the 4709 flags for the Soldiers that have been killed? As a native of Columbia, and a Soldier myself, it's borderline offensive that there is still a prominent spotlight on the people of the World Trade Center. Did we forget the people at the Pentagon, or the heroes in PA that lost their lives?

I believe the 3,300 flags represents the loss of life at all 3 locations. I agree a picture of the Columbia display would be nice to see.
