A tip of the hat to the Hammond High School Chamber Choir, which opened Wednesday night's bullying symposium with a bluesy version of "This Little Light of Mine," with a twist of gospel treatment thrown in as well.

Director Ross Rawlings told me that the same group of 16 singers also doubles as the school's madrigal group, so the performance was a bit of a stretch. I sure couldn't tell — they were great!

Getting to Know You

As you have figured out, I'm new to Columbia. I have visited, played and shopped in Columbia in the past (who hasn't been to Merriweather?), but this will be my first chance to really get to know the community "up close and personal" and to attempt to be and provide a voice for you.

I had the pleasure of meeting Board of Education member Ellen Flynn Giles and involved residents Carole Fisher and Nanette Schweitzer at Wednesday's Choose Civility symposium on bullying.

They shared some insights with me, and all three said they love Patch and depend on it for local information.

These ladies are among the first entries in my Columbia Rolodex!
