Wikipedia will go dark in protest of two bills that address illegal copying on the Internet.

Does anyone remember a world without Wikipedia?

It was a world where you actually knew what old books smelled like, the name of your librarian--and you got headaches squinting at old newspapers on microfiche.

And if you were wondering, the Wikipedia I’m reading Tuesday says microfiche are flat sheets that are minireproductions of documents.

Wikipedia and other websites are planning to go “dark” Wednesday in protest of two bills in Congress, SOPA and PIPA, which address illegal copying on the Internet.

According to ABC News, Internet companies are concerned the bill would force them to police the online world.

The Washington Post Style blog has several tips for those trying to cope with the Wikipedia Wednesday blackout, including: Try an ACTUAL encyclopedia (you know, the kind with paper), call your grandpa, who has lived through the historical events chronicled on Wikipedia, and—best of all, “There is this thing called a library.”
