Police: ‘Bailady’ Shot in Columbia Was To Collect $1,000

A Columbia man accused of shooting a bail bondswoman owed her $1,000, according to court documents.

The Columbia man charged in the killing of a Baltimore bail bondswoman owed her an outstanding balance of $1,000, according to Howard County court documents.

, 21, of Columbia, is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder and first- and second-degree assault in the fatal Long Reach shooting.

McDonald, whose last known address was 9761 Clocktower Lane, is being held at the Howard County Detention Center without bond.

Officers found Nichole McNair, 42, Sept. 12 in the parking lot of an apartment building at 8817 Hayshed Lane suffering from a gunshot wound.

McNair’s BMW SUV, with the vanity license plate “Bailady,” was found at the scene, still running, according to Howard County court charging documents.

Police said witnesses reported seeing a man in a hooded jacket running from the scene.

Detectives said they searched McNair’s car and found a receipt book indicating she was collecting a $1,000 payment from McDonald, who had already paid $350 towards his total $1,350 balance.

Police said a search of the woods near the crime scene uncovered a cell phone that belonged to McNair and the back piece of a Samsung cell phone that was later determined to belong to McDonald.

Detectives said they observed McDonald leaving the apartment building at 8818 Tamar Drive, a place where he had been staying.

He was stopped by police and was in possession of the other half of the Samsung phone, police said.

Investigators said they searched the building and found in the common area in the basement of the building, a jacket with a hood and—wedged behind a fridge—a loaded handgun.

McDonald’s attorney is District Public Defender Carol Hanson, who was unavailable Monday morning.

His preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 14 at 8:45 a.m. at the Howard County Courthouse, 3451 Courthouse Drive, Ellicott City.
