Howard County police have a traveling trailer filled with sports gear, games and more.

Pictured is Sgt. Darryl Thompson playing Baggo with the Murray family Monday at the Talbott Springs Pool, where Howard County police kicked off a program that offers sports activities and games to young people.

The program, called the “Community Athletic Program,” is funded with an anti-gang grant from the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Here's how it works: Police go to at-risk areas for crime in the summer, such as areas near shopping centers, apartment complexes, foot paths and tot lots, and there, they offer activities that target middle-to-high school-aged youth who do not have cars, but are too old for traditional supervised activities, according to a Howard County police press release.

This summer, they are traveling around to these areas with a trailer filled with sports gear, games and video game equipment that's staffed by school resource officers and other youth services officers.

The trailer will be at the following locations this summer from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.:
