Photo Gallery: Lakefront Fourth of July Celebrations

From great food to live entertainment, we look at how people were celebrating our nation's birth here in Columbia.

Thousands showed up for the annual Fourth of July Celebration along the shores of Lake Kittamaqundi Monday night. The festivities officially kicked off at 5 p.m., and included a variety of children’s entertainment and live music.

Many people claimed their spots early and the hillsides from the lake to the mall were quickly covered in blankets, tarps and beach towels. There were plenty of summer-time treats like ice cream, snow cones and funnel cakes available, as well as kid’s activities such as face-painting and games.

Howard County Government and The Columbia Association were among the sponsors. Although a late rain shower threatened to shut down the show, the fireworks display kicked off at 9:30 as planned.
