Patch Picks: Summer Camps

Various summer camps are offered throughout the area. Check out these camps for adventure, awareness and the arts.

 in Savage is hosting an “Ultimate Adventure Camp.” By combining fitness and fun, youth ages 10 to 14 will have a summer they will never forget. Together with Earth Treks Climbing Center, your child will spend the day swimming, biking, paddling, climbing, zipping and much more!

A new outdoor leadership skill will be introduced to campers each day. In addition, they will visit local forests and waterways. Since camp size is limited, early registration is encouraged!

2. Get a Kick Out of Camp

Beginning in mid June,  in Laurel will offer children ages 5 and up an opportunity to learn karate and enjoy a day of fun. Daily visits and special field trips to places such as pools, bowling, laser tag, Chuck-e-Cheese, miniature golf, and skating will provide your child with action and adventure.

According to their website, “Our structured program will let you be worry free and your child will be safe as they learn a new way this summer – the Karate Academy way of martial arts and fun together!”

3. Tunes and Beats They’ll Love

 is offering a summer of music for infants through teens. One-week, full-day and half-day camps will engage your child this summer. A variety of classes at various locations are available in music recording,

Mother Goose, musical instruments, international music, glee club, keyboarding, jazz, instrumental and vocal studios. Take advantage of a free lesson by visiting their website. Private lessons are available as well.

4. Feel the Heat - Ignite Potential!

 in Elkridge is a private, non-profit school serving children in the first grade through high school. Students with speech and language disabilities, learning differences or high-functioning autism disorders can enjoy a social readiness camp with low camp to counselor ratio.

Offering four, one week sessions from June 27 through July 22, campers will develop social awareness, teamwork and self-esteem. The summer camp program is open to students from 6 to 12 years old. A Junior Leadership program is available for high school students. Field trips, tutoring and extended day is available.

5. Spend the Summer on Stage

 in Columbia is a musical theater camp for children from first through eighth grade. The program is an opportunity for campers to develop their talents and love of the stage. Instruction includes drama, dance, play writing and voice.

A final talent show will be presented at the end of each session. In addition, there is a two-week conservatory for the more experienced camper. A full theatrical production will be held at the end of the summer. Auditions for the conservatory are now being conducted and camp registration is underway.

A limited number of scholarships are available for students who qualify.
