Four Candidates File for Three School Board Seats, Deadline Looms

Incumbents Janet Siddiqui and Ellen Flyn Giles and challengers Leslie Kornreich and Ann DeLacy have officially filed to run for the Board of Education; incumbent Allen Dyer intended to file Friday. The deadline to file to run for any Howard County office is Jan. 11.

Howard County Liquor Inspector Mark Baxter is taking fake IDs off the streets of Howard County. He was cited for his efforts in a federal investigation and is putting underage drinkers and potential criminals — including terrorists — on notice.

Frigid Temps Fill Beds at County Cold Weather Shelter

Howard County's only shelter, Grassroots, also operates a seasonal Cold Weather Shelter (CWS) program. The CWS program--housed among a rotating group of Howard County churches--has been operating at capacity this week. Still, Grassroots works to find shelter for anyone needing assistance, making sure no one is left out in the cold.

Laurel Mall Macy's Set to Close

It's closing time for the Laurel Mall Macy's after the company announced this week that it would shutter the store after more than 30 years in business this spring. The move comes as the mall is slated for redevelopment later this year.
