Get nutrients by eating them and exercise by picking them!

With fall getting into full swing, there’s nothing more iconic than seeing that white bag of Macintosh apples in the produce section of the grocery store.

“Apples are a good source of fiber and with some cheese or peanut butter make a great balanced snack,” said Amanda Hillesland, a dietician at .

But eating them is just one aspect of an apple’s benefits. Picking them is also a healthy and fun activity.

Visiting an orchard to pick apples is “great family fun and exercise," Hillesland said. "Also this is a great way to teach your kids where some of their food comes from and to talk about healthy eating."
