Ex-Boyfriend Indicted in Columbia Killing

A Charlotte man is said to have rented a vehicle to kill a woman in Columbia.

A North Carolina man was indicted by a Howard County Grand Jury last week for the murder of his ex-girlfriend in Columbia.

Ryan Patrick Matthias, 42, of Charlotte was indicted on first- and second-degree murder charges in the killing of Deborah Castellano, 47.

Castellano was found shot to death in her vehicle in the 9600 block of Basket Ring Road on May 4.

Prior to her killing Castellano had recently moved to Columbia to work at Maryland Live! Casino, according to the documents. Castellano and Matthias broke up after she accused him of domestic violence in N.Y., where they were living at the time, according to the charging documents.

According to charging documents, Matthias was arrested on May 11 after police found he had rented a vehicle on May 3 in N.C. that matched a witness description. The car was later returned on May 5 with over 1,000 miles on it, according to the documents.

Matthias was extradited to Howard County on June 12.
