Ellicott City Son Pleads Guilty to Attempted Murder of Dad

The 28-year-old was mad that dad accused him of using his credit card, court officials said.

An Ellicott City man pleaded guilty in Howard County Circuit Court Tuesday to attempted first-degree murder after he stabbed his father last September, according to court officials.

Clement Yien-Chiu, 28, had been living on the 5100 block of Lackwanna St. in College Park.

According to court records, Yien-Chiu’s had come over for dinner on Sept. 8. His father accused him of theft; he said his son had used his credit cards without permission.

Yien-Chiu pulled out a pocketknife, according to records, stabbed his father in the neck then punched him in the head. He then grabbed a “large kitchen knife,” according to the charging documents, and chased his dad, who was able to get into his vehicle and drive away.

Howard County Assistant State’s Attorney Susan Weinstein said she will ask for a 40-year sentence with 30 years suspended – meaning Yien-Chiu would spend 10 years in prison.

Judge Timothy J. McCrone scheduled sentencing for June 20.
