Comment: Bag tax is ‘a bunch of horse manure.’

Howard County readers react to the news of the past week.

Howard County readers took their thoughts to the comments sections last week on Patch, talking most about stories about the Howard County school district’s decision to , the evolving village of Wilde Lake in Columbia, the bag tax’s possible spread in Maryland, a and the police chief’s response to

“Is the bridge actually unsafe or do people just use their feelings to determine that it's unsafe (if it is unsafe it should be replaced, of course)? Isn't it enclosed because it crosses a major highway and there is a desire to not have people throwing things down to the highway? This seems, like many things, to be whiners whining about something trivial.” – Matt M

“This is unbelievable. HCPSS is so inept at acquiring school sites that without a backup plan for Ducketts Lane, they are looking at Oxford Square again, a site they previously backed away from for an elementary school because of the potential for the intermodal nearby. The intermodal is still a threat, but the HCPSS is ignoring the potential health threat from the fact that the school is located on the truck path to the intermodal should it come to Hanover. It is amazing and shameful that our school system cannot acquire even one school site on its own for a part of the county that has been suffering school overcrowding for so many years.” -

Wilde Lake: A Battle Over the Soul of Columbia’s First Village Center "I really don't want to see any apartments there either. I live at the Cross Fox condos, and I'm wondering how having apartments right next to us will affect the market value (which has already gone to crap because of the market anyways). Bring in more vibrant, one-of-a-kind stores." — michellefromtx

Could a Bag Tax Go Statewide in Maryland? “This a bunch of horse manure that Montgomery County is doing to get more money. The only good thing I offer to this is that it was another scheme to get money from the taxpayer, just like the red light and speed cameras. If they offered a refund for the bag when taken to a recycle center or the place of business, then I could see how it would help the environment. That would get them off the street. But they don't. The bags are still going to be in the dump and the side of the road. -

“The attorney says ‘just because they were caught doesn't change the fact that it was a quota’ - but conversely, just because he says there is a quota system does not change the fact that the driver was DUI... she was caught, cited, and should abide by the penalty ... period.” - Wendy Woods
