Romney Leads Big in CO, Close Race in MN

With voting in Nevada complete, only two days until the next contests in Colorado and Minnesota. What are the latest polls showing?

Now that Nevada Republicans have finished their caucuses and given Mitt Romney a decisive victory, we look ahead to this week and where the Republican stands in Colorado and Minnesota, the next two states up in the primary process.

Public Policy Polling is now out with the latest polls for the caucuses to be held on February 7th and they show Mitt Romney well ahead in the state of Colorado while the race is much closer in Minnesota. Starting with Colorado:

PRESIDENT – COLORADO – GOP CAUCUS (PPP)
Mitt Romney 40%
Rick Santorum 26%
Newt Gingrich 18%
Ron Paul 12%

This poll was done February 4th among 527 likely caucus goers. In Minnesota, Rick Santorum actually is slightly ahead of Romney despite Romney receiving the endorsement of former Governor Tim Pawlenty.

PRESIDENT – MINNESOTA – GOP CAUCUS (PPP)
Rick Santorum 29%
Mitt Romney 27%
Newt Gingrich 22%
Ron Paul 19%

This poll was done February 4th among 410 likely caucus goers. I think the most newsworthy item from both these polls is Newt Gingrich is in third place.

Public Policy Pollign says they will release additional numbers tonight.
