Marylanders Lean YES On Two Ballot Questions, Sobhani Reaches 20% in US Senate Race

New polling shows Marylanders leaning in favor of two major ballot questions while Rob Sobhani is threatening Dan Bongino in the US Senate race.

We have a new poll for the state of Maryland that dives into how Marylanders feel about the ballot questions we will be voting on in November.  Gonzales Research usually takes a few days before posting poll results to its website, but Maryland Reporter did post the actual poll results document at its website.  Boiling it down to what this means for the actual ballot questions and how they would turn out assuming the results match the expected way people would vote on the questions, here are those results:

QUESTION 4 - DREAM ACT
Yes 58%
No 34%

QUESTION 6 - SAME SEX MARRIAGE
Yes 51%
No 43%

QUESTION 7 - EXPANDED GAMBLING
Yes 45%
No 46%

The questions on Same Sex Marriage and the Dream Act are pretty clear cut.  If you are in favor or oppose either issue, your vote in November is clear.  Interestingly in this poll, 17% of Republicans favor same-sex marriage, roughly one out of every five Republicans you run across will support same-sex marriage and appear to be ready to vote in favor it this year, including yours truly.

I think the one is many people, like me, have no issue with expanded gambling in the state of Maryland but might have problems with the way it is being implemented.  The vote on this issue is a little more muddled because you might agree with the end goal, but the process to get there makes a lot of people think twice about voting in favor of this question.

I, for one, have been surprised at the seeming lack of any advertising on either side for the Same Sex Marriage issue or the "Dream Act" issue.  Every television ad and mailer that I have seen related to the ballot questions this year has been solely focused on Question 7 regarding the gambling issue.  Is everyone else experiencing the same?

The other item of note that I briefly mentioned in my previous post regarding a new poll from YouGov concerns the US Senate race and how much impact the Independent candidate Rob Sobhani will have.  I think even the most hard core Republican would tell you Maryland is a tough state for Republicans, but I brought up the fact that the YouGov poll did not include Rob Sobhani, who as far as I can tell, is the only candidate running advertising this year on television (at least from what I have seen).  In this latest poll from Gonzales Research, Sobhani is included and is actually threatening to surpass the Republican candidate Dan Bongino in the polls.

US SENATE - MARYLAND (Gonzales)
Ben Cardin (D-inc) 50%
Dan Bongino (R) 22%
Rob Sobhani (I) 21%

I have heard Bongino speak and he is an impressive candidate taking the fact that he is running in Maryland out of the equation, but the truth is I rarely see him outside of political-oriented events.  I see Rob Sobhani all over the television, which is the way most Maryland voters get their political news.  My wife, who pays a lot less attention to Maryland politics than I do, has commented on how many times she has seen him on TV and asked me who he is.  She has never asked me who Dan Bongino is.  Again, it will be tough for either Bongino or Sobhani to defeat Cardin, but the fact that Sobhani appears to have reached at least 20% shows this carpet bombing of television ads is working to get his name out there.

This poll was done September 17-23 among 813 registered voters with a margin of error of +/- 3.5%.  Maryland Reporter has the full results here.

"Money is the ROOT of all evil!"
Not really. Many have plenty and are not evil. What does money cause? GREED! Greed is the root of all evil.

We see Frank making another in a long line of generalizations he wants to connect to an entire group of people. I am not aware of any "conservative obsession with ellipses". Can you show us all the others so obsessed?
What is the liberal progressive obsession with vagina's and homosex?
Joe September 30, 2012 at 03:20 pm
"The republicans have spent the last 30 years trying to privatize SS and dismantle Medicare and the social safety net. "
Really? Please show us the legislation put forth on the floor of congress over the past 30 years that would do any of that! Another lie of generalization.
Joe September 30, 2012 at 03:21 pm
"When did the Republican Party become the party of far right christian idealogues?"
Well it didn;t but... When did the Democrat party become the party of far left God hating abortion loving, vagina obsessed, criminal lovers?

Of course Cardin will be re-elected. We just cannot flush all that crap with 1.5 gallon flush!
Cardin was on Ron Smith one day and talking energy. Ron asked what "green energy" can replace fuels for transportation. Cardin said wind ans solar. Ron started to then ask the obvious and he seemed to stop knowing it was useless to even begin to show how idiotic he was in in answering the way he did.

If Bongino is not the exception, it will be Maryland's loss this go-round, for sure.
Joe September 30, 2012 at 03:37 pm
Well, what WAS he talking about Mr Cardin Spokesperson?
Plugging in a 45' tractor trailer to the 220 outlet for a cross country delivery of goods? Yea yea, that's the ticket!

False ASSumption as usual Frank. You are King of those.

It may interest some readers to know that there is an electric car with solar panels imbedded into portions of the roof and hood. The car is the Fisker Karma, financed by an federal government loan, and manufactured in Finland.

Red herring Frank. As usual.
Joe September 30, 2012 at 03:51 pm
There IS NO alternate now or in the near future for transportation fuels except nat gas. It is now a reality not a dream. Peterbilt produces ng tractors today. They do not build electric tractors today.
Cardin was idiotic answering that the way he did admit it.

Frank fails again with false quotes. Why quote something Frank that someone did not say? Are you that empty of thought you need to make stuff up?
Joe September 30, 2012 at 04:00 pm
I'll play Frank.
Frank says "I can't think of anything to say so I'll make up things."
jnrentz1 September 30, 2012 at 04:13 pm
Joe, Yes, at least two fires were reported.
Steve, The original plan called for a shuttered plant to be brought on line for manufacturing the Fisker, but this does not appear to be happening.
jnrentz1 September 30, 2012 at 04:26 pm
If anyone is interested, there is a Fisker on display at Montgomery Mall.
Joe September 30, 2012 at 04:31 pm
Frank, your debating skills are absent. Your quoting skills are less.

Many of the comments between frequent users of this site show a clear generational gap of Internet etiquette. This gap is most prominent between older adults who are unaware of etiquette and do not understand trolling as anonymous arguing for the sake of arguing; and younger users whom use different forums and message boards based on their various levels of 'appropriate' use and etiquette.
Anonymity should not give you the right to troll every post, providing distasteful or rude comments, devoid of any actual useful or insightful political or intellectual discourse. This is just not the forum that type of behavior. If you want to troll all day go to reddit.com/r/politics TL;DR. If you want to troll, I am going to call you out.

Oh please Red Maryland is a front for the Republican Party, everything they say is blatantly dishonest and serves only to please hardcore Republicans. They are shills. One of their writers worked as a campaign strategist for 10 years for Republicans, and chairs on the Maryland Young Republicans. Next time show us a reputable source not a blog.
Stay on the issues, Cardin must not be re-elected at all costs. I find it hilarious Republicans are busier attacking one of their own than attacking the real threat.
