Get Your Bark On! CA’s Dog Day Afternoon Returns on May 3. Save the Date!

Get your bark on! Columbia Association (CA) is excited to announce that it will be hosting the eighth annual Dog Day Afternoon on Saturday, May 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Hopewell Park, located at 9200 Rustling Leaf in Columbia. CA invites local canines — and their people — to an afternoon of contests, treats, activities and lots of tail-wagging fun.

Last year’s event brought more than 800 people and their dogs. This year, dog lovers can enter their four-legged friends into the Tail-Wagging Contest; Bone-Eating Contest; Columbia’s Cutest Canine Contest; and more. Additional entertainment may include raffles, music, food — yes, for dogs and for humans — face painting, caricature artists and an arts and crafts station sponsored by Columbia Art Center.

New this year will be pet communications readings with pet communicator Emerald DuCoeur and performances by comedy dog act Mutts Gone Nuts.

Admission to Dog Day Afternoon is free. Registration is encouraged but not required via ColumbiaAssociation.org/DogDay.

CA also will be selling their official Dog Day Afternoon T-shirts for $10, or two for $15. Pet communications readings will be $10 for 10 minutes. Caricature drawings of your loveable four-legged friend(s) are $5 for a black-and-white drawing and $10 for a color drawing. Only cash will be accepted during Dog Day Afternoon. A portion of the proceeds will benefit a local nonprofit.

In addition, CA will be collecting items to be donated to a local nonprofit, including:

  • canned cat and dog food

  • dry cat and dog food

  • soft treats and biscuit-type treats

  • new dog and cat toys (Kong-type indestructible toys are great!)

  • blankets and towels

  • buckle- or martingale-type collars

  • leashes

  • gift cards from pet stores for emergency food and supplies, as needed

  • This free event also will feature local businesses and organizations that focus on the health, happiness and well-being of our beloved furry friends.

CA is now accepting applications from local pet vendors and nonprofit organizations that benefit dogs. Interested persons should call 410-423-1891, email Erin.McPhail@ColumbiaAssociation.org or click here for a vendor application.

This year’s event is being sponsored by our Tail Waggin’ Sponsor, VCA Animal Hospitals, and by the Top Dog Sponsors: A&B’s Pampered Pets LLC, Banfield Animal Hospital, Camp Bow Wow of Columbia, PetSmart and Subaru.

A rain date has been set for Sunday, May 4, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hopewell Park.
