Columbia Association Board of Directors Approves Funding for Pool and Other Features at Haven on the Lake

Haven on the Lake is a retreat center opening later this year.

The Columbia Association Board of Directors voted Thursday to approve funding for a pool and other features at Haven on the Lake, a mind and body wellness retreat that is expected to open later this year at the site of the new Whole Foods Market in downtown Columbia.

Subcontractors are expected to be on site within a few weeks. Once they begin, the project will take five months to complete. Haven on the Lake's anticipated opening date is in late fall of 2014.

Haven on the Lake, once it opens, will provide services and amenities that are truly unique to the area. Its service offerings include mind/body movement classes, with a variety of yoga, Pilates, Barre and energy fusion classes taught by experts in their own fields. The spa will provide integrative services such as massage, holistic skin care, acupuncture, Reiki, natural nails and more. It will also have a spa boutique that will offer the ability for members and guests to customize their own products for their personal skin and body care needs using all-natural, pure organic ingredients.

Provided by Columbia Association in partnership with The Still Point wellness spas, Haven on the Lake is a retreat right in the heart of Columbia. It is designed as a reprieve for adults to recover, reconnect and rejuvenate through restorative and health enhancing experiences.

Members can relax at the spa, retreat in the mind/body lounge, rejuvenate their mind and body with one of the many movement classes, and nourish themselves in a cafe with food provided by Whole Foods.

The project had originally been budgeted for $4.3 million. Construction bids came in at $5.9 million, however. CA staff had subsequently proposed a revised plan that would cost $5,019,000, though the revised plan did not include the pool, which would cost an additional $511,000. On Thursday, the CA Board opted to add the pool back into the plans, approving a transfer of $1.219 million in capital funds, bringing the total cost to a little more than $5.51 million. Thursday's vote will also allow for other previously planned features to be included in the project.

A total of $948,000 of that additional funding will come from savings realized in more than 90 capital projects that were completed under budget in the last year. The board also approved delaying spending $235,000 on a digital signage project and replacing one vehicle, and postponed spending $75,000 for planning for renovations to the barn at Wilde Lake Park.
