ON THE SPOT DETAILING Celebrates 10th Anv w/ New Local at Maryland Live! Casino
On the Spot Detailing is celebrating their 10th Anniversary throughout the months of June and July, having grown from a two-man mobile operation making a mere $25,000 in their first full year, to $1 million in sales in 2013. Today, owner Robert Schruefer, who is also the 2014 Vice President of the International Detailer’s Association (IDA), has grown On the Spot to five mobile units covering the surrounding Baltimore, Annapolis, Frederick, and Washington D.C. areas; a fixed location in a 4,800 square-foot building at 9110 Red Branch Road, in Columbia; and two additional mobile units in Tampa, Florida. He also services nine car dealerships in the surrounding area and has a satellite location in the new Maryland Live! Casino that opened in Hanover in March.
The newest casino location quickly transitioned from a trial run to a permanent on-site detailing service to the casino’s high-rolling clientele. Management built On the Spot a three-bay workplace in the valet area, complete with new lights, water fixtures, and storage.
Throughout June and July, On the Spot is offering every customer $10 or 10% off any detailing service, depending upon which is larger, in celebration of their 10-years in business. In addition to automotive, marine, commercial, fleet, recreational, and motorcycle detailing, they also provide paint correction services, odor removal, headlight repair, and coatings. All On the Spot mobile detailing units are self-contained with buffers, water tanks, and carpet extractors; and some units do paint touch-up work and minor dent repairs.

Schruefer says involvement in the IDA empowers detailers like him and many others by recognizing the industry as a skilled profession. By providing educational programs to help certify and better train detailers in advanced detailing skills, detailers can provide quality services to a high-end marketplace and grow their small businesses into successful large businesses. “The IDA helps detailers stay on top of technology and set higher standards for customers.”
