Loyola’s Sellinger School Grads Achieve Highest CPA Exam Pass Rates in Maryland

First-time certified public accountant candidates who graduated from Loyola University Maryland’s Sellinger School of Business and Management achieved the highest CPA exam pass rates of all first-time candidates who graduated from Maryland institutions. Nationally, the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) ranked Loyola’s Sellinger School the eighth best in test performance among similarly sized programs in 2012.

According to NASBA, 74.5 percent of 51 candidates with Sellinger School bachelor’s degrees passed the CPA exam the first time, more than 20 percent higher than the Maryland average of 52.9 percent in 2012. First-time candidates with Sellinger School advanced degrees also scored the highest—with a pass rate of 73.5 percent—among candidates from other Maryland institutions.

“This is the result of the dedication our accounting faculty have to assure our students are well prepared for this professional licensure. What a wonderful accomplishment,” said Karyl B. Leggio, dean of the Sellinger School.

Loyola’s Sellinger School of Business offers undergraduate and graduate accounting degrees for students who plan to take the CPA exam, including a 150-hour program awarding a bachelor’s degree in accounting after four years and an MBA after a fifth year. The Sellinger School also offers an MBA with an accounting concentration for students with non-business undergraduate degrees.
