Karen Ellsworth Named Treasurer for the Business Women’s Network of Howard County Scholarship Foundation

Karen Ellsworth, an attorney with Columbia-based Carney, Kelehan, Bresler, Bennett and Scherr LLP, which offers a broad range of legal services, was named treasurer for the Business Women’s Network of Howard County Scholarship Foundation. The Business Women’s Network of Howard County promotes and supports professional women in their careers as executives, business owners and leaders.

“The Business Women’s Network of Howard County Scholarship Foundation provides scholarships to female adult learners to help them achieve educational goals for professional development or a career change. The foundation has recently requested 501(c)(3) status with the goal of growing the number and amount of the scholarships available to women,” Ellsworth said.

As an attorney with CarneyKelehan, Ellsworth is part of the firm’s Estates and Trusts Group serving a diverse group of clients with estate planning needs and assisting personal representatives in estate administration. She also represents clients in corporate matters, including formation of corporations, limited liability companies and 501(c)(3) tax-exempt entities, transfer of interests in business entities and general business representation. She also handles matters in federal and state tax law.

Ellsworth is a member of the American Bar Association, Maryland Bar Association, D.C. Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan and Howard County Bar Association.

She earned her Master of Laws degree in taxation from the University of Baltimore School of Law, her Juris Doctor from Michigan State University College of Law, and her Master of Business Administration and bachelor’s degrees at Lake Superior State University.
