CarneyKelehan Attorney Named President-elect for Association of Community Services of Howard County

Thomas M. Meachum, a partner with the Columbia-based law firm of Carney, Kelehan, Bresler, Bennett and Scherr LLP, was elected president-elect of the Association of Community Services (ACS) of Howard County. Previously, he served as secretary of ACS and chair of the fundraising committee.

ACS is a network of organizations and individuals serving Howard County residents across the spectrum of health and human services.

Meachum, who has more than 30 years of experience in the legal field, specializes in zoning and development law, general real estate, employment law, estate litigation and alcohol beverage licensing. He advises real estate clients in matters including special exceptions, rezoning, conditional uses, waiver applications, development, variances, real estate contracts, title issues and covenants, and provides general counsel to companies and individual employees on employment matters.

Meachum is also a member of the board of directors of the Howard County Chamber of Commerce and chair of ACS’s Fund Development Committee. He is a board member of the Pro Bono Resource Center and volunteer driver for Neighbor Ride.

He is a graduate of Leadership Howard County, a former president of the Howard County Bar Association and the Arc of Howard County, and chair of the Leadership Development Committee of the Arc. Meachum has served as a member of the board of governors of the Maryland State Bar Association and on two separate Howard County charter review commissions.

Meachum earned his law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College. He lives in Westminster, Md.
