Will Wegmans Be Able to Sell Beer and Wine?

HowChow wants to know. Patch got the answer.

Howard County’s most popular food blogger—HowChow--posted an important question Thursday morning:

“Will the Wegmans sell liquor in Columbia?” wrote the blogger, who has not revealed his or her name.

HowChow points to rumors swirling on the Facebook fan page for Columbia Wegmans that libations might be for sale in the high-end grocery store that some people are very excited to see come to Columbia. The opening date has been designated as June 17.

We don’t mean to gloat, HowChow, but we do.

The answer resides with Denise King, the administrator at the Board of License Commissioners.

“Wegmans has not applied for a liquor license, nor can they,” she wrote in an email to Patch Thursday morning. “They are considered a chain store, and Howard County does not allow chain stores to hold liquor licenses.”
