Readers' Choice Winner: Union Jack's for St. Patrick's Day

Our reader's choice pick is Union Jack's British Pub, but we've included information about five other great places to celebrate on Saturday.

It’s time to celebrate your inner Irish, even if you’re not Irish. Here’s six local options for St. Patrick's Day celebrations on Saturday:

- This week our for favorite place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day is Union Jack’s British Pub. The pub is opening on Saturday at 8 a.m. with a free breakfast buffet until 10 a.m. They’ll be pouring $1 Killian’s from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and serving an Irish Menu with corned beef and cabbage, beef stew, cottage pie and banger’s and mash. At night, there’ll be two party zones, with an inside stage area featuring two bands and an outdoor Guiness station, according to the website.

– The saloon is holding its “extravaganza” from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. on St. Paddy’s Day. Drinks specials include $2 green Natural Bohemian’s all day and $3 Guiness pints and $4 Irish Coffee from 10 a.m. to noon. They’ll be serving an Irish breakfast, Guinness stew, fish and chips and corned beef and cabbage. Bruce Casteel is scheduled to play Irish music from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. and Paranormal Rock takes the stage at 8:30 p.m.

– The Snowden River Parkway restaurant is serving a special St. Patrick’s menu and having live music from 9 p.m. to midnight. The menu includes an Irish breakfast brunch (Irish bacon, red bliss potatoes, Guiness baked beans, grilled tomato—$10), beef and Guiness pie ($17), and an Irish cream gateaux (Bailey’s Irish cream mousse, Irish whiskey cake, chocolate stout sauce—$8). 

– The beer haven is offering a number of Irish options for St. Paddy’s—$4 Flying Dog Lucky SOB pints, $5 Jameson and Bushmill shots. And they’ll be serving the following on tap—Harpoon Celtic Ale, O’Hara’s Irish Stout, Murphy’s Irish Stout, Rogue Kell’s Irish Lager, Loose Cannon aged in Jameson oak casks and Schlafly Irish Stout. Those beers will cost $4 - $7. Frisco will be open from 11 a.m. to 1:45 a.m.

– The tavern will be opening early at 3 p.m. instead of 5 p.m.  Drink specials include Jameson, and Irish honey Bushmill’s, among others. Bottled beers will cost around $3, shots around $4 and they will be serving corned beef and cabbage, according to a staff member. The band Whitehouse Effect is scheduled to play.

– The restaurant with the beautiful view is hosting kegs n’ eggs—omelets with Irish beer for $7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Their all-day menu will include corned beef and cabbage, Shepherd's pie and fish and chips. Irish acoustic music is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. and Irish dancing begins at 6:30 p.m. with a bagpiper set to play from 6 to 9 p.m. At 10 p.m. there will be a chalice hoist competition, which is a contest to see who can hold a large glass filled with water up for the longest period of time.
