Wegmans Reveals Use for Upstairs Space

The space that was proposed for a liquor store will have a new function.

The 10,000 square foot space on the second floor of the Columbia Wegmans will be used for various educational and cooking classes, according to a Wegmans spokesperson.

The in-store events will be scheduled until Wegmans can figure out a permanent use for the large space on the second floor that was originally intended for a liquor store, according to the spokesperson.

A large event calendar was posted just outside the second floor space that adjoins the Market Cafe last week.

Recently announced events include a partnership between Wegmans and St. Agnes Hospital. The free series, which is focused on fostering health and wellness in the county, will be held on the second Monday of each month, from 6 - 7:30 p.m., October through June.

The Howard County Alcoholic Beverage Board unanimously voted against granting a liquor license to the potential owners of the proposed liquor store in July after they concluded it violated a ban on chain stores selling alcohol in Maryland and there wasn't a demonstrated need in the area.
