Sonic Looking to Open Early Next Year in Ellicott City

The late summer expected opening has been delayed due to multiple other projects at the site, says the owner.

In case you didn't know, Sonic will be opening a location in Ellicott City on Route 40.

However, delays at the site, 10164 Baltimore National Pike, is causing the expected opening to be pushed back, according to Sonic franchisee David Crocetti, who is opening the Ellicott City location.

Crocetti was hesitant to provide an opening date when Patch spoke with him in May, instead saying he hoped to open the drive-in restaurant sometime in late summer of 2013.

Well, we're now approaching the late summer, and it looks like Ellicott City won't be seeing Sonic's car hops, burgers and shakes until 2014.

"The site is being developed for multiple users so it is taking a little longer than it would if it were only for Sonic," said Crocetti, in an email. "The project is progressing just at a slower pace since they have multiple plans to review at one time."

Crocetti said the Sonic portion of the site is approved and he believes the restaurant wil be opening early next year.

"We will not provide an opening date until the building is well under construction," said Crocetti, "since there are just too many issues that can aries in a development project."

The location of the restaurant is about a block away and across the street from the Double T Diner on Route 40.
