Saturday Event Invites Public Discussion on Kings Contrivance Village Center

Residents are encouraged to discuss their vision for the future of the village center.

The Kings Contrivance Village Board is leading a village center walkabout on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 10:30 a.m. in the Amherst Lobby, according to village organizers.

Residents are encouraged to discuss what the best and worst parts about the village center, as well as what people envision for the future. Input from the walkabout will be taken into consideration for the Kings Contrivance Village Center Community Plan, which guides zoning in the area.

"It's an opportunity for residents to voice their vision for future changes in the Village Center," said Anne Brinker, manager for the Kings Contrivance Village Center.

Businesses have moved in and out of the center, including Harris Teeter replacing Safeway and , and Brinker said this is a way to ensure residents' vision for the center is officially submitted to Howard County.

"We've had lots of merchants change over the years, but the feel has mainly remained the same," Brinker said.

"The plan would have input from people who work near the center, and live near the center. So input is the biggest part," she said.

The walkabout will include the shopping center, areas around and open space owned by General Growth Properties–formerly known as Howard Research and Development.
