Nordstrom Rack Announces Columbia Opening Date

The opening celebration of the retailer will start at 8 a.m. with music and breakfast.

Nordstrom Rack will open its new Columbia Crossing store on May 16, according to the company's website.

The company is opening in a 40,000 square foot store at 6141 Columbia Crossing Circle, according to the company. The space is the former location of the RoomStore, which closed last year.

Nordstrom Rack offers many of the brands carried in Nordstrom department stores, but at a discount, often between 30 and 70 percent off.

"We're fortunate to have lots of customers living in Maryland and hope this new store will make it more convenient for our Columbia customers to shop both our full-line and Rack locations," said Geevy Thomas, president of Nordstrom Rack, in a December statement.

To kick off the opening, the store is hosting residents at 8 a.m. for music and breakfast treats. Those that get there early, will have a chance to win one of 30 $100 gift cards. In addition, one winner will get a $1,000 gift card and the chance to enter the store at 8:30 a.m., before it officially opens at 9 a.m., according to the store's website.

As part of the run-up to the new store opening, the company has created a Facebook page for the opening as well as a Twitter account for the store.

Nordstrom also operates a regular store in the Mall in Columbia. The company announced it was opening a Nordstrom Rack location in the city in December.
