Jersey Mike's Opening at Gateway Overlook

A new sub shop is coming to town and it's kicking off its opening week with a fundraiser to help youths in Howard County.

Jersey Mike's Subs, known for its fresh sandwiches and wraps, will open in Gateway Overlook on March 12.

Before then, the restaurant is circulating 15,000 coupons promising a free regular sub for at least a $1 contribution to Young Life Howard County. Customers must have a coupon to be eligible.

Gateway Overlook restaurant operator Cliff Brown said the "free sub fundraiser" will take place from March 12 to March 16.

"Much like Young Life, Jersey Mike's takes pride in developing our youth to be successful and contributing members of society and we are excited to support this cause," Brown said.

Since 2010, Jersey Mike's locations nationwide have raised nearly $7.5 million for local charities and distributed more than 600,000 free sandwiches to help various causes, according to a statement from the sub shop.

In addition, the staff creates a spirit of community inside the store. "The Jersey Mike's experience always includes its trademark neighborly banter served up by a high-energy Jersey Mike's team," according to a statement from Jersey Mike's.

Jersey Mike's makes subs to order and has been doing so since 1956, when the first location opened.

The company uses private labeled meats and cheeses that are freshly sliced for each sub.

All bread is freshly baked. Subs come in small (5" sub), regular (7") or large (14–15") sizes.

Sandwiches can be made "Mike's Way" with onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a signature olive oil blend, vinegar and spices.

The Columbia shop will be the seventh location for franchise owner Danny Malamis, who he opened his first Jersey Mike's in Laurel in 2010. His others are in Germantown, Frederick, Gaithersburg, Bowie and Greenbelt.

Jersey Mike's has 1,300 restaurants open and under development nationwide. In just three years, the company reported that it has nearly doubled in size.

Jersey Mike's will open March 12 at 6630 Marie Curie Drive in Elkridge. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and may be reached at 410-567-0364.
