Columbia Cookie Challenge, Day 1: Lakeside Cafe & Deli

Our judges, your Patch editors, turn their taste buds to downtown Columbia.

We're David Greisman and Lisa Rossi, Patch editors who work "in the field" each day all around Columbia, eating cookies along the way to fuel our efforts at journalistic muckraking.

At this point, after covering everything in our part of Howard County from crime and catastrophe to cute and cuddly—fueled by coffee and, well, you know—we think we know what we're talking about.

Over the next seven days, we'll give you our review of a selection of sweets from seven spots. Today: Lakeside Cafe & Deli, a favored gathering spot for those who work in downtown Columbia.

Chocolate chip cookie (small, 55 cents)

David: "The cookie starts off on first bite with a dry, crumbly taste, but as one chews, the softness and flavor comes out. Part of that might be the chocolate chips moving out of the dough and toward the taste buds."

Lisa: "It's sweet, sugary and just the right amount of doughy."

Thumbs up.
