UPDATE: Overturned Tractor Trailer Shuts Down 29 South

All three lanes were blocked for about three hours on Friday.

UPDATE - 1:00 p.m. - Police reported Route 29 south has been reopened near MD 32, where the accident occurred.

Original Story

The Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services responded to an overturned tractor trailer on Route 29 south near MD 32 on Friday morning.

The driver of the truck and a passenger were transported by HCDFRS with minor injuries as a result of the accident, according to Jackie Cutler, a spokesperson for the fire department.

Cutler said the tractor trailer was carrying bulk dry foods. The accident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Friday.

Police said the cause of the accident is under investigation.

Buell said the truck was carrying a full load, but because it was food products, hazmat was not required for the cleanup. He said the process of removing the truck's cargo and getting it upright may take a few hours.

"For everyone involved," said Buell, "They want to do this as quickly as possible."

Editor's Note: Originally HCDFRS reported three people being transported as a result of the accident, but later corrected it to two - the driver and a passenger. Also, the time of the accident was updated based on further information.
