Ulman 1,000 Raises the Bar

American Cancer Prevention Study-3

The Ulman 1,000” Raises the Bar to Help Prevent Cancer!  Enroll in CPS-3 and Help Howard Co. Recruit 1,000 Volunteers  www.CPS3HowardCounty.org

Howard County’s Executive Ken Ulman has created the “The Ulman 1,000” – an incredible, effort to recruit 1,000 cancer fighters in Howard County, which he announced at the American Cancer Society’s CPS-3 Community Kickoff on April 9.   “The Ulman 1,000” aims to get 1,000 people to enroll in Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3) during the week of June 9 at any of five Howard area locations.

This long-term study of the American Cancer Society will follow people’s lifestyles for the next 20 to 30 years to help researchers better understand the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that cause or prevent cancer, which will ultimately save lives.   CPS-3 is seeking 300,000 people around the country including approximately 4,900 in Maryland.  If Howard County achieves 1,000 enrollees, it will set a local record!

The community support at the kickoff was amazing.  County Executive Ulman announced that he and his wife will be enrolling in the study.   “I want to know what the root causes of cancer are.  This is personal to me,” said Ulman, who pointed out that his brother, sister and father have all had cancer.  “We still don’t know as much as we need to about cancer.”

I want to thank the roomful of folks who attended the Howard kickoff, including our awesome Champions who are helping spread the word and our enrollment partner sites.
