HCAC Currently Accepting 2012 Rising Star Competition Applications & 2011 Howie Award Nominations
Ellicott City, MD –The Howard County Arts Council is a private, non-profit organization that serves Howard County by fostering the arts, artists, and arts organizations. HCAC is currently accepting applications for the 2012 Rising Star Performing Artist Professional Development Award and nominations for the 2011 Howie Awards.
The Rising Star Competition: The Rising Star Award competition is open to individual performers, ages 18-35, who live, train, work, or perform regularly in Howard County or have done so in the past. Review criteria include artistic expression, technical ability, and stage presence. Up to ten selected finalists will perform at the Arts Council’s annual benefit gala, Celebration of the Arts in Howard County, on the evening of March 24, 2012 at Howard Community College’s Peter and Elizabeth Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center in Columbia, MD. The event audience of over 500 artists, arts patrons, business and political representatives, and other community members will then vote for their favorite performer. The winner of the popular vote will receive the top $5,000 Rising Star Emerging Performing Artist Award on stage that night. Additional awards may be given depending on the amount of funding raised from the event.

Applications for the 2012 competition are available at http://www.hocoarts.org, with a final deadline of November 1, 2011.
The 2011 Howie Awards: The Howard County Arts Council is seeking nominations for the 2011 Howie Awards that honor individuals and businesses that have made significant contributions to the arts in Howard County. The 2011 Howie Awards will be presented at the Celebration of the Arts in Howard County on March 24, 2012 where members of the arts, education, government and business communities of Howard County will gather.

Nomination forms are available online at the Arts Council’s website http://www.hocoarts.org. Nominations must be postmarked or faxed no later than November 1, 2011.
