Eye of the Beholder

Nature photography by Columbia resident Joseph V. Murray, Sr., will be featured in an exhibit, “Eye of the Beholder,” in the Gudelsky Center at the Howard County Conservancy in Woodstock, Oct. 17-Nov. 14.

Murray is Director of Community Relations for Ascend One Corp. in Columbia, and is a well-known community leader currently serving as chair of the Volunteer Center of Howard County. His photographs include images of flora and fauna, wildlife and landscapes primarily of Maryland and Virginia, including views of the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, of which he is a native.

“I photograph whatever moves me,” Murray explains. “ My perspective and interpretation of the beauty around me has changed since I developed my first rolls of film in my chemical darkroom over 50 years ago, “ he adds. “What has not changed is my deep need to respond to that natural beauty by capturing emotionally moving images to enjoy for a lifetime.”
