Columbia Pro Cantare Performs Jazz by Brubeck

Choral and instrumental works of Dave Brubeck take center stage at Columbia Pro Cantare's May 5 concert with the Eric Mintel Quartet. Brubeck's choral works include several oratorios, a mass setting, and a number of song cycles. The CPC chorus will sing excerpts from Brubeck's The Light in the Wilderness (1968) and To Hope! A Celebration (1980), and a song based on the Langston Hughes poem Hold Fast to Dreams (1998). Two of Eric Mintel's choral works wil also be featured. The Eric Mintel Quartet performs throughout the eastern seaboard and has performed twice at the White House, most recently for President Obama in December 2011.

There will be a free pre-concert lecture on the music by Dr. Barbara Renton at 7 pm.
