WATCH: Baby Born at 25 Weeks Survives, Thrives

The prospects seemed bleak for Tamara Walden-Regenold when she went into labor at just 25 weeks. She was brought into the delivery room at where she was informed one of her twins wouldn't survive birth.

Theresa Collins, the nurse who assisted Walden-Regenold  said, "When she went through all this, she was going to give birth to a live son who was extremely sick and she had to deal with that, then at the same time, she had to give birth to a baby she already lost."

She was in labor for two days, and when her son, Xander, was born, he had to immediately be placed in the neonatal intensive care unit.

For four months, nurses at nursed Xander back to health, as Walden-Regenold stood by anxiously, waiting for her first opportunity to touch her baby.

"The best hands for my child for the past four months were not mine," said Walden-Regenold in the video. Over time, she said she bonded with the nurses who cared for her son as each day he became more healthy.

Then on January 6, 2012, Xander was discharged from the hospital and was reunited with his mother.

The story of how Walden-Regenold and the nurses at Howard County General dealt with the situation is touchingly told in the eight minute video above.

The video was produced by  3 Penny Films for Howard County General Hospital and posted on YouTube. Walden-Regenold is from Florida and was in Maryland working on her PHD, according to a spokesperson from Howard General.
