Howard County Lane Closures Begin This Week

Beginning Thursday night, lanes will be closed on Interstate 95 six nights a week as crews work on the roadway between Maryland Route 32 (Patuxent Freeway) and Maryland Route 216 (Scaggsville Road), according to the State Highway Administration.

Expect single-lane closures:

• Monday – Thursday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m
• Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. 

Beginning at 9 p.m. each night, double-lane closures are also a possibility, according to the SHA.

During those times, speed limits will be reduced to 55 miles per hour while construction crews remove the top layer of asphalt, then patch, pave and re-stripe the approximately two miles of the road. 

The SHA expects the project to be completed by mid-September, weather permitting. 

“We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to improve this section of I-95,” SHA District Engineer David Coyne said in a statement. “When this work is complete, the daily average of nearly 191,000 vehicles on this section of I-95 will travel on a smoother, safer surface with fresh, bright lines.”
