Helicopter in Howard County Conducting Summer Inspections

The helicopter may hover in certain areas, according to BGE.

Noticed an unfamiliar helicopter overhead? It could be checking out your power lines.

During July and August, BGE has contracted a helicopter to assist with inspections of its towers, poles and wires, according to a statement from the utility company.

The helicopter inspections will take place along BGE rights of way in Howard, Baltimore, Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties, according to the statement, which said citizens may see the helicopter hovering near power lines.

BGE reports that it can evaluate its transmission equipment more efficiently from an aerial perspective, though it will continue inspections from the ground as well. Damaged or worn equipment that is identified will be scheduled for repair or replacement, the BGE said.
