'Haven on the Lake' Breaks Ground on Columbia Lakefront

The wellness studio opening this year broke ground behind Whole Foods.

The Columbia Association, which operates a host of recreational facilities, broke ground Wednesday on its newest concept: Haven on the Lake, a holistic wellness center.

It's a "mind-body retreat," Haven on the Lake General Manager Emily Talbot said at the Wednesday morning ceremony.

The retreat will feature amenities like tropical rain showers, a crystal salt room, cold pool and studios for Pilates, tai chi, qigong and barre classes, according to Talbot.

There will be a "yoga plank wall," with knotted straps and ropes and "other forms of suspension that will aid in alignment" so people can go deeper into their poses to relieve tension and "defy the laws of gravity," Talbot said.

Local business The Still Point—which has locations in Clarksville and Takoma Park—has teamed up with the Columbia Association to offer acupuncture, massage, skin care and nutrition coaching at Haven on the Lake as well.

In another partnership, the nearby Whole Foods (opening soon) will deliver snacks daily for sale at the center.

Haven on the Lake will open in November 2014.
