Howard County Watershed Stewards Academy Information Night

Information Night for the Howard County Watershed Stewards Academy will feature reps from The University of Maryland Extension, Howard County, Center for Watershed Protection, Howard County Office of Sustainability, Columbia Association and Legacy Leadership Institute for the Environment describing a new volunteer training opportunity.

Recruitment deadline is Sept. 12 for first class of about 20 adults to begin a 15-week course Oct. 2, 2012 at the University of Maryland Extension, 3300 N. Ridge Rd., Suite 240, Ellicott City. Volunteers will then have the knowledge and be given the tools to design and build a project in their neighborhood that will reduce the amount of polluted storm water runoff that flows into local streams and rivers and into the Chesapeake Bay.  Watershed Stewards will educate Howard County residents about the need for conservation landscaping, rain gardens, and other ways to prevent pollution and manage storm water on private property.
