Howard County asked that residents check on neighbors as dangerously low temperatures chill the region Tuesday.

“Please check on your neighbors during this weather event,” said County Executive Ken Ulman, in a statement. “The care and compassion we show each other is the most important resource during times of need.”

The National Weather Service is predicting a midday high of 15 degrees, but 20 to 30 mph winds are expected to bring a 15 below zero wind chill.

A wind chill advisory is in effect until 6 p.m.

The county reminded residents never to use a generator indoors and that kerosene heaters should be used with caution.

County facilities including the libraries and senior centers will be open today and can provide a space for residents to get warm.

Perhaps this could be updated to include the hours of the libraries and senior centers if they are open late.
