Columbia Snowfall Totals Come in Close to Predictions

The National Weather Service reported the following snowfall totals for the city and county.

The meteorologists said Columbia would receive between 5 and 9 inches in Tuesday's snow storm, so how did they do?

Pretty accurate, according to snowfall measurements reported to the National Weather Service.

A trained spotter measured 8 inches in north Columbia at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, while another spotter measured 6.8 inches in northwest Columbia at the same time.

The figures for the county ranged from 8 inches recorded in Columbia and Highland to 6.5 inches in west Elkridge.

A spotter in Harford County reported the highest snowfall total in the state of 11.2 inches at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday night.

The region experienced a similar amount of snow earlier this month, when a storm dropped between 4 to 6 inches in Howard County on Jan. 2.
