Columbia Home Tour Raises $3,500 for Charity

Home tour organizers present $3,500 check to charity to ease foreclosures.

Organizers of the Columbia Home Tour presented a check for $3,500 to local charity Bridges to Housing Stability on Wednesday.

The money was raised through ticket sales to the annual home tour, which showcased homes in different villages on June 3.

"The proceeds will be used for direct client assistance and to help people avoid foreclosure," said Jane O'Leary, the executive director of Bridges to Housing Stability.

The 2012 home tour was the fourth annual tour of local homes to benefit a local charity.

"The purpose is to highlight houses in the community and make a difference in housing," said Joan Lancos, one of the tour's organizers.

Tickets to the tour cost $25 each and gave people the opportunity to see an original Pacesetter home in Oakland Mills, a large colonial in King's Contrivance, a Tuscan 'castle' in River Hill, a couple's first townhouse in River Hill and an eclectic condo in a Wilde Lake high rise, according to the Columbia Home Tour's fact sheet.

Bridges to Housing Stability was founded in 1990, according to O'Leary, and its goal is to end homelessness in Howard County, according to the charity's website.
