CA's BikeAbout Returns for Another Year Sept. 21

The popular event that focuses on Columbia's pathways and history will take place next month.

Columbia Association's annual neighborhood bike ride and information session—BikeAbout—will take place on Sept. 21 this year.

The free self-paced ride begins at Lake Elkhorn and will take residents on a 10-mile ride through sections of Owen Brown and Kings Contrivance via Columbia's network of pathways. The route features hilly paths and offers views of the Middle Patuxent River, according to CA.

A shorter 3.4 mile ride is also being offered for those who are looking for an easier ride, according to CA.

The following areas and information will be featured along the route:

  • Kings Contrivance Restaurant
  • How neighborhoods and roads got their names
  • Atholton and Macgill's Common neighborhoods
  • Guilford Pratt Truss Bridge that is a pedestrian connection between Savage and Columbia.
The ride begins at 9 a.m. and parking is available at 9270 Patuxent Woods Drive. CA is also seeking volunteers for the event who can choose from flexible shifts between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
